Dream Playground Fund Growing

The Port Angeles "Dream Playground" – a 12,000 square foot "super" playground to be located at Erickson Park in Port Angeles – is attracting the attention, and more importantly, the support of a growing number of community members, from business owners to busy kids. "Our Port Angeles Dream Playground plans have taken a giant step forward through our recent 'Koins For Kids' Campaign in our local schools," says spokesperson Cher Merrill. "Port Angeles elementary students competed to see which school could bring in the most spare change and win the reward of an ice cream feed for their school." At a judging event on May 4th, student representatives from each school brought their coins to the Roosevelt Middle School Gym where they attempted to line the floor with spare change.

"The total our school kids collected is $2341.10 and another $299.50 was donated from community collection sites," reports Fundraising Co-Chair Steve Methner, "and Fairview School won our Koins for Kids contest hands down. The kids were so enthusiastic and did such a great job," Methner adds, "we may do a 'round two' on the Koins for Kids before school is out.

The Dream Playground – scheduled for construction over a six-day period beginning September 11, 2002 – now has donations of more than $33,000. The attached news release, sidebar information and photos tell more of the story of how the Port Angeles community is getting involved in this exciting project.
